A note from Mrs. Horn….
- a packed lunch
with a drink.
- to wear old
tennis shoes that can get dirty.
- to wear a long
sleeve t-shirt (we will put your child’s class t-shirt over their long
sleeve shirt Friday morning) and long pants.
- bring a jacket
depending on the weather.
We
are going to have so much fun!
Keep
sending in those donations for the Harmony Hustle. We can’t wait till October 11th
when we will have our Hustle outside during PE time. Families are invited to come walk/run with
us.
Come
back to school that evening from 6-8:00 for the Harmony Harvest. It is a fun filled night with games, jumpies
and prizes. Don’t forget about our class
auction items. If you are unable to make
it to the Harvest, but you'd like to buy a ticket to one of these events, just
send a note with payment in your child's folder and I will put them on the
list. Here’s a sneak peak of our auction items:
Build a Lego city with
Mrs. Horn
Do you like to build? Let's build a Lego City! This will
need architects, engineers, and designers! I am looking for a crew to build a
Lego city. Together we can work to design stores, parks, playgrounds, and
houses. We will make cars, roads, and schools. We will make everything we need
to make our city look like a real city! If you are interested, bring your
imagination and come build, build, build with Mrs. Horn!
The more architects we have the bigger and better our
city will be! All grade levels are welcome. Sign up below for just $15 per
child and join us on Tuesday, November 12th from 2:30-4:00pm.
A small snack and drink will be provided. Everyone’s a winner!
Spa Day with Mrs. Horn
Do you like to be pampered like a princess? Let Mrs. Horn
treat you to a spa day. Salon services include a pretty manicure , stylish hair style (with
ribbons and bows if desired), and make-up.
The more princesses that join the better! Sign up for
just $15 per child (checks payable to Harmony PTA) and join us on Tuesday,
January 14th from 2:30-4:00pm. A snack and drink will be provided.

shopping without the kids, or go on that much needed date night with your honey
! We will be having our sleepover the same night as Mrs. Tabor, Mrs.
Haselton and Ms. Poteet. The fee will be $25 and all students are welcome to
attend.
Reminders ….
*Please help your
kindergartener learn their lunch and bus number!
*If you’re still
practicing with shoe tying, I have a special book I can lend to help with
this. You tube has some great videos
with easy tricks too!
*Putting on jackets
and zipping independently is an important skill to have as the temperatures
dip. They are always so proud when they
can do it themselves and help others.
*Be sure to be reading
at least 10 minutes a night and record your book titles!

What are we learning?
Reading Workshop
This week we will
learn about syllables and how we can use these to help us read. Dividing words into parts or “chunks” helps
speed the process of decoding words and helps with spelling.
Writing Workshop
This week we will learn
how to continue to speak and listen to each other as we form opinions and write
about them. Speaking and listening are
both very important language and social skills.
They sure do enjoy sharing their opinions and explaining why they have a
particular opinion.
Handwriting
Handwriting
instruction will focus on developing fine motor skills as well as the proper
formation of the following letters: Kk and Ll.
Word Study
This week, we will
explore the letters Kk and Ll. Ask your child about the letter sound chants for
both.
We will also learn how
to read and write these words that will be added to our Word Wall: she, we, had.
Have your child sing you the songs for these words.
Math
We will review counting strategies and write about how
and why we use counting.
Science
This week we will continue
our science unit on plants and learn about what plants need to grow. We will also learn about the lifecycle of an
apple and pumpkin while at Huber’s Farm.
