A
note from Mrs. Horn….
We
have a lot of things going on this week, so please be sure to check the weekly
planner each evening!
There
are some students who are having a hard time with spelling and identifying the
word wall words. Please be sure you are
going over these with your students each evening! Have them play games finding them, have them
write them in shaving cream, chalk, or any other fun way to help them remember
the words. These word wall words make up
the majority of the words they see in text and try to write, so it is very
important for them to quickly recognize them.
Reminders
….
*Please
help your kindergartener learn their lunch and bus number.
*It’s
time for all kindergartners to practice tying their own shoes. Thanks for your
help with this at home.
*Be
sure to be reading at least 10 minutes a night and record your book titles.

What
are we learning?
Reading
Workshop
This
week we will continue learning about strategies good readers use. This week we will focus on these strategies: Looking for Chunks, Rereading, and Does it
make sense? Please be sure to look at
the Reading Strategy book that we sent home last week to help assist your
student with using these reading strategies.
Writing
Workshop
This
week we are continuing to work on stretching our words to identify sounds that
we hear. We will also start writing an
opinion piece about our favorite season.
On Friday, we will write in our Family Journals. Please take time over
the weekend to read your child’s letter to you and respond.
Handwriting
Handwriting
instruction will focus on developing fine motor skills as well as the proper
formation of the following letters: C, c, H, and h.
Word
Study
This
week, we will explore the letters Cc and Hh. Ask your child about the letter
sound chants for both.
We
will also learn how to read and write these words that will be added to our
Word Wall: at, that, for. Have your child sing you the songs for these words.
Math
We
will begin a new unit on counting.
Students will practice counting objects, counting down to zero, and
putting numbers in order. Have your
student count things at home to practice.
Science
This
week we will finish our science unit on seasons and weather. Students will learn about different weather,
clouds and precipitation.
