Newsletter 4/14/14
With the weather warming up, we will be going outside as much as
possible for recess and brain breaks! Please be sure your child has on proper
shoes for the playground. Flip flops,
strappy sandals and crocs are cute, but dangerous for them to run in and wear
on the playground equipment.
Please also do not forget to send in a water bottle and healthy
small snack each day.
We are getting into the busy time of the school year! Next week on Tuesday and Wednesday we will
have scrimmage testing for 3rd-5th grade. This means our Related arts time will be
shorter and at a different time.
If your child doesn’t know how to tie their shoes, now would be
a great time to learn. Check out some of
the methods below.

What are we learning?
Reading Workshop
We are finishing up our unit on story elements by reading
literary books from different continents.
We are also reading informational books about each continent and
focusing on each continent setting (environments).
Writing Workshop
We will continue to write our retelling of Little Red Riding
Hood. We are changing the setting and
characters. They have gotten very
creative with these!
Word Study
This week we will learn about the word families: -ell, -ill,
-all. Our word wall words for this week are: down, us, any. Have
your child sing you the songs for these words.
Math
We will continue with our unit on number stories. We will determine how to use numbers in my
math stories, how to solve missing addends and how to solve number stories
using a calculator!
Science/ Social Studies
We are continuing our unit on The Great Big World. This week we are focusing on Australia and
Antarctica.
