A note from Mrs. Horn….
The
holidays are coming and we have been busy in kindergarten getting ready. We are learning so much about different
holidays and traditions. Chippy-our Elf
on a Shelf came in last week and the children are working very hard to impress
him.
We will be
participating in a school-wide holiday sing a long on Thursday, December 19th. The whole school will be wearing pajamas and
singing festive songs. Kindergarten is
singing “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer”. The children decided they would like to wear
reindeer antlers (we will make these in school).
Reminders ….
-
Kindergarten
is a time to learn independence. Please encourage your student to do things on
their own at home! Once you see them do
something on their own, have them continue to do it on their own to build their
confidence!
-
During
the Holiday Season, please make sure you continue reading with your child every
night.
Dates to Remember
- School
Holiday Sing a long-Thursday, December 19th at 8:00.
Reading
Workshop
We
are beginning a new unit on story elements.
This week, we will discuss characters and setting.
We
are very busy writing our letters to Santa and learning what it means to
persuade. It’s time to begin our letters
to Santa!
Word
Study
This
week, we will explore the word families: -et, -en, -eg. Ask your child about the phonics chants for all.
If they seem like they don’t remember, here’s a refresher for –en. We say, “En, en, ten men named Ben. Ben, Ben,
Ben, Ben, Ben, Ben, Ben, Ben, Ben, Ben (ten times while counting on fingers). We will also learn how to read and write
these words that will be added to our Word Wall: me, see, from. Have your child sing you the songs for these
words.
What
do the numbers in this story mean? We
will begin to learn about the addition and subtraction symbols through solving
number stories.
Social Studies
We
are learning so much about various holidays and traditions people celebrate
during this time of year.
